I interned at Ralph Lauren on the Global IT product management team as a product design intern. I worked closely with product managers and creative teams to enhance the existing design through user testing. Throughout the internship, I mainly focus on three projects as followings:
I reviewed user tests through usertesting.com while taking notes on excel sheets. Eventually, I formed informative emails to deliver the key takeaways of users' behaviors and also perceptions of the existing products. The creative team took the findings to further develop their proposal for the future made-to-order product line.
The goal of the project is to examine other fashion brands' approaches to the metaverse space. I looked into more than 13 western fashion brands and also a high-level overview of the eastern countries such as China, Japan and Korea. In the end, I provide some insights into the industrial approaches and also the possible future directions.
I worked closely in a cross-functional team with other 6 interns. We addressed the topic of creating a unisex solution for the Ralph Lauren experience. During the project, I conducted surveys to validate our targeted user group and eventually developed website prototypes for our designed concept.
What if we could create a Ralph Lauren experience, unbound by gender, that invites the youth to write our Next Great Chapter with us?
One of the biggest takeaways I have is the importance of prioritizing tasks while being assigned multiple projects. I listed out the deadline and priority, and ask for accommodations and help whenever I encounter difficulties. I also utilize tools such as Notions to keep track of my progress. Another key learning I have is "the only failure is failure to learn. " I made mistakes, yet learned from them and never did it again. At the end of the internship, my manager was proud to tell me he can see my great learning curve.
I interned at Cargill for 2 semesters as a UXUI design intern. During the first semester, I worked with two software engineering interns on a sentimental analysis survey. We aim to automate the reviewing survey process and maximize client efficiency. In the second semester, I led as a solo designer on the team and enhance the existing chatbot solution.
This is a 2 days hackathon held by Cargill Innovation Lab. I collaborated with another UXUI design intern to work on the topic of designing a biodiesel trading platform. Within a short timeframe, we conducted research recognizing the problem, and rapidly developed 20+ interfaces to present to our stakeholders.
The following contents are additional research after the competitor. I am unable to publicly go in-depth about my work due to NDA restrictions, so please contact me at chenanya95@gmail.com f you want to learn more!
"It’s like Zillow, but for oils."
This means a seller can list their product on the platform with their own prices and ability to accept offers.
Despite being a 2 days project, I worked intensively with my team member on research, brainstorming, designing a functional prototype, and eventually practicing ways of storytelling. With limited time and capability, we distributed workload and hopped on a quick call frequently whenever questions exist.
One of the biggest lessons I learned from the hackathon experience is that it is impossible to have everything done. We were unable to conduct further research on the problem due to limited time. However, after the competition, I researched both our stakeholders and the existing market to consolidate our idea. Design is always a process of never-ending iterations.
